Round 6: Drawish Round Helped Vocaturo To Extend Lead to the Next Round


After the sixth round of the 6th Mediterranean Championship, Vocaturo defended his sole lead with a draw with Wirig and has 5 points. Gurevich missed a good chance against Georgiadis and thus still chasing the young Italian together with Wirig, Georgiadis, and Parligras. The Turkish youngster Şanal made another upset by drawing against the Hakki Imad. Detailed report below.

Round 5: Vocaturo Takes the Sole Lead

IM Vocaturo took the sole lead in the Mediterranean Championship after winning against GM Mohr while GM Gurevich drew against GM Aroshidze. Georgiadis, Gurevich and Wirig are sharing the second place with 4 points. Another sensation of the round was the win of 11-year-old CM Vahap Şanal's win over Mediterranean Champion for women, WIM Drjlevic.

Round 4 Painted Black, Vocaturo and Gurevich Followed By 7 Players



Gurevich and Vocautoro drew their game to continue their shared lead. Seven players followed them namely Georgiadis, Gelashvili, Odeev, Aroshidze, Doric, Wirig and Mohr. There were 13 black wins out of 21 boards,hence the championship was painted black. Detailed report and pictures below.

Round 3: Gurevich and Vocaturo Share the Lead

In the third round of the Mediterranean Championship, GM Gurevich defeated his compatriot IM Erdoğdu with the help of a nice exchange sacrifice while IM Vocaturo inflicted GM Aroshidze a loss. Round 2: Five Remain With Perfect Score

After the second round of the 2009 Mediterranean Championship five players remain with perfect score, GMs Gurevich, Aroshidze, IMs Georgiadis, Erdoğdu and Vocaturo.
